Our Story

Hi — I’m Gregg, the founder of JitzGripz.

I trained when I was younger, then stepped away from BJJ for years.
In my 40s, I finally came back and joined Costa Academy here in Perth.

For the past three years I’ve trained consistently and earned my blue belt — along with the usual collection of aches and injuries that come with the sport.

The moment everything changed

After a neck injury, I developed nerve pain and lost a lot of strength in my right hand.

If you’ve ever struggled to grip properly, you know how frustrating that is — everything in gi training depends on it.

I worked with therapists, physios, and chiropractors, and began rebuilding my strength.

The gear problem

I bought a grip trainer online to help with recovery.

It tore on the first use.

I bought another from a different brand.

That one lasted about a week.

At the same time, I started using various BJJ finger tapes to protect my grips during training — and ran into just as many problems.

Some tapes felt brittle and tore easily.
Some used weak adhesive and slipped off during hard rolls.
Others were so narrow they rolled into a thin cord and became more of a hindrance than a help.

Nothing felt made for real mat time.

So I decided to make my own

I wanted gear that could handle actual grappling — sweat, friction, pressure, repetition.

Something durable.
Something reliable.
Something I could trust session after session.

The first homemade versions worked.

Teammates started asking for them.

Then more people wanted them.

And JitzGripz was born.

Built for grapplers like us

JitzGripz isn’t designed for casual use or display.

It’s built for people who train hard, deal with injuries, and still show up.

Gear that helps you protect your hands, rebuild strength, and keep training consistently.
